Avoid troubles when injecting insulin

You should pay attention to the following

Single use of the needle

Pen needles are disposable products. Use a fresh needle with every injection - for the sake of your health!

Using a pen needle more than once can lead to undesirable consequences:

  • Unnecessary pain, because the lubricious silicone coating was worn off during the first injection

  • Unnecessary pain due to a blunt needle tip

  • Inaccurate insulin dosage and clogging of the needle due to crystallized residual insulin from previous injection

  • Lipohypertrophy due to the smallest injuries at the injection site

    Correct needle length

    • If the needle is too long, the insulin could be accidentally injected into the muscle tissue
Solution: the correct needle length is determined during diabetes training

    Attention during the injection

    • Injection through clothing should be avoided at all costs, as fibres from the fabric or dirt particles could get under the skin. This could cause painful infections, which are absolutely avoidable with hygienic injections. A further disadvantage is that the extremely finely tip of the pen needle could be bent when penetrating clothing, making the injection painful.

    • The injection site should also be checked for blood or insulin leakage after each injection, which is not possible when injecting through clothing.
